By Emma, Founder of Cascata | Building confidence through scalp health

If there’s one thing my 20 years behind the chair have taught me, it’s this: great hair always starts with a healthy scalp.

So many of the issues I see every day in the salon excess oil, dryness, itching, slow growth and lack of volume  don’t actually start with the hair itself. They start at the scalp.

That’s why at Cascata, we put so much thought into the ingredients we use and why we use them. Two ingredients I’m especially passionate about when it comes to scalp health are Eucalyptus Oil and Niacinamide. Let me explain why these two work so well together.

Why Scalp Care Matters More Than You Think

Your scalp is skin  and often the most neglected skin on your body. We overload it with dry shampoo, styling products, heat and extensions, but rarely give it the same care we give our face. Over time, this can lead to:

  1. Product build-up
  2. Sensitivity and irritation
  3. Excess oil or dryness
  4. Weakened hair at the root

When the scalp isn’t balanced, hair simply can’t perform at its best.

Eucalyptus Oil: A Breath of Fresh Air for Your Scalp

Eucalyptus oil is one of my go-to ingredients for scalp comfort and freshness.

Some of the key benefits include:

  1. Helping soothe irritation ideal for itchy or sensitive scalps
  2. Supporting scalp cleanliness by breaking down build-up
  3. Creating a cooling, refreshing feeling many clients love
  4. Naturally antibacterial, helping maintain a healthy scalp environment

In salon terms, I often describe eucalyptus as giving the scalp a “reset”. It helps the scalp feel clean, calm and refreshed without stripping or drying it out.

Niacinamide: The Strength Builder

Niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B3) is an ingredient many people already recognise from skincare  and for good reason. It’s just as powerful when used on the scalp.

Some of the key benefits include:

  1. Helping balance oil production
  2. Supporting the scalp barrier
  3. Improving moisture retention
  4. Creating a healthier foundation for stronger-looking hair

I see of niacinamide as the ingredient that helps your scalp work better long-term  not just giving instant results, but improving overall scalp health over time.

Why Eucalyptus Oil and Niacinamide Work Better Together

On their own, both ingredients are impressive. Together, they’re even more effective.

Eucalyptus oil helps refresh, soothe and purify, while niacinamide helps strengthen, balance and protect.

This combination means your scalp feels better now and behaves better over time which is exactly what we want.

In the salon, this is especially helpful for clients who:

  1. Use lots of styling products
  2. Wear extensions or clip-ins
  3. Struggle with oiliness one week and dryness the next
  4. Want healthier hair without harsh treatments

My Advice as a Hairdresser

If you’re dealing with recurring scalp issues, my biggest advice is simple: stop chasing quick fixes and start supporting your scalp properly.

 Look for products that:

Healthy scalp care doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be consistent.

At Cascata, every ingredient is chosen with real salon experience in mind. Eucalyptus oil and niacinamide are just two examples of how we combine proven ingredients with real-world results.
